Dual Delivery for Instructors

3 min read

When teaching a dual delivery class, the setup of the room will determine where you should display your slides and the webinar window. There are two main classroom types: one-screen rooms and two-screen rooms. In the slides below, we describe what you can expect to see when you walk into the classroom to teach.

What to Expect: Classrooms with Two Screens #

What to Expect: Classrooms with One Screen #

Audio #

  • There are two main microphones in our classrooms, the podium mic (For the instructor’s voice) and the audio arrays in the ceiling (For all sounds in the classroom, including students and instructors walking away from the podium)
  • Test the audio within Zoom to make sure that you can hear the sound in the room in the Zoom call. If not, check, and make sure Crestron (2- IntelĀ® Display Audio) is selected as the main audio source.
  • Additionally make sure that the computer itself is unmuted, and that “program mute” is not activated (blue light).

Video Feed #

  • Cameras in the classroom will capture the video feed for students joining the Zoom call online.
  • Most classrooms have cameras that track instructor movement so feel free to move about the room.

Recordings #

  • Classroom Recording System with A/V
    • The default recording method is the classroom recording system. Note that whatever is displayed on the confidence monitor is also being recorded. Tip: look to the confidence monitor as a reminder of what is being recorded.
    • Our default recordings combine the in-class audience camera capture (from the back of the room) and what is displayed on the confidence monitor. Students can toggle between the two when watching a class recording.
    • We recommend you schedule these recordings with A/V according to your class schedule so that they start/stop automatically.
  • Zoom Recordings
    • Zoom recording: you may also choose to record the Zoom call. Remember that Zoom recordings are not automatically uploaded to your course page and you will need to provide students access to these recordings by posting the recording link on Quercus.
    • If you record the Zoom call, it is your responsibility to share the video with your students. This won’t happen automatically.
    • The Zoom recording can be useful if you need to remind yourself of student engagement in the class, for example, to calculate participation grades.
    • In the Zoom recording, by default the gallery takes up a part of the screen on the right side. Instructors need to be sure not to write on that part of the screen. With more participants, the gallery might cover the entire right side of the screen.
    • You can adjust this layout in the Zoom settings.
    • If you are recording a session, breakout rooms are not recorded. When the host leaves the main room to join a breakout room, there will be a gap in the recording where viewers will see a blank screen with no audio

Other Considerations #

  • We recommend annotating a blank Powerpoint slide using the stylus and smart screen on the computer podium as opposed to the classroom whiteboard.
  • If you’re more comfortable writing on the physical whiteboard we recommend drawing your letters at least 4-5 inches tall so it’s easier for remote students to read.
