Moderator Workflow #
As a “Moderator” for the instructor, you will help the instructor manage both the in-class and online student experience. Your main tool will be the Crestron tablet found within each classroom. This tablet will give you control of the video feed that students will see at home. You can change camera angles and in some cases move the camera itself (depending on the classroom). You will also have a laptop to be able to join the zoom call as a co-host.
The following steps describe your workflow:
1. Be there early #
- Best to be there 10-15 minutes before class to help set up and troubleshoot any unexpected issues. Remember, you will always have technical support back-up from the A/V team.
2. Help the instructor set up classroom equipment #
- The instructor will log in to the podium computer and set up their content.
- Make sure the monitor is properly displaying on the screen(s) in the classroom. (If there is dual screens make sure the zoom call is displaying on the right side non-touch screen)
- Crestron Panel: if there are two screens in the classroom, make sure you select Dual Source on the Crestron panel.
- Bring down the projector screens (This will happen automatically in the South building classrooms)
- Make sure the audio and video feeds are working properly.
3. Join the Zoom call #
- You will be added as Co-host by the instructor.
- If your instructor wants to record the call on Zoom, make sure you start the recording or remind them to start it if they forget.
4. Help the class go smoothly #
- Make sure the camera angles make sense for students viewing from home. (If a student is talking the camera should be in audience view, etc.)
- You will monitor the Zoom call, facilitate discussion as needed, and ensure everything runs smoothly from a technical standpoint.
- Help the instructor troubleshoot any technical issues that come up.
The workflow for Moderators remains similar in most cases. However there may be some differences in the way you perform you duties depending on whether the classroom you are in has a 1 screen or 2 screen setup.

Troubleshooting #
Audio #
- There are two main mics, the podium mic (For instructors voice) and the microphone array (picks up sound in the classroom)
- Test audio within Zoom. Make sure you can hear the sound in the room in the Zoom call. If not, check, and make sure Crestron (2- IntelĀ® Display Audio) is selected as the main audio source.
- Additionally make sure computer is unmuted, and that program mute is not activated (blue light).
Video #
- Ensure Extron MediaPort200 is selected as the main camera source in Zoom
