Objective:
Use an open-ended Poll Everywhere activity to collect student names and track attendance during class.
How to Set It Up: #
- Log in to your Poll Everywhere account.
- If you do not yet have an account and need access, please email rotmandigital@rotman.utoronto.ca to request access to the Rotman license. Please also consult this guide on using Poll Everywhere.
- Click “Create” and select “Open-Ended” as the activity type.
- In the prompt field, enter:
“Type your name if you are present.” - Click “Create” to save the poll.

- Set a timer for approximately 30 seconds (optional but recommended).

Display the QR code on the classroom screen so students can scan and respond quickly.

Tips for In-Class Use: #
- Activate the poll at a random time during the session (rather than at the beginning or end).
This reduces the likelihood that those not physically in the room can respond. - Keep the poll open for a short amount of time.
After Class: #
- Generate a report for the activity from your Poll Everywhere dashboard.
- Download the report as a spreadsheet or PDF to keep a record of attendance.

Important Note:
This attendance method is not foolproof, as students could share the link or QR code with others. Opening the poll at random times for short periods will help.
